With gross revenue of R$17.6 billion in 2007 and a market share of 13.3%, Companhia Brasileira de Distribuição is the second largest retailer in Brazil. The Company operates 575 stores in 14 states and in Distrito Federal, with more than 1.3 million squared meters sales area, near 66 thousand employees and 22 distribution centers. Its business is based on a multiformat structure, with a balance between supermarkets, hypermarkets, stores of eletronic products/ household appliances, convenience stores, cash-and-carry segment and e-commerce operations, allowing a wide range of consumers’ needs and expectations in different regions and diverse social and economic classes: neighborhood supermarkets for higher purchasing power classes (Pão de Açúcar), supermarkets addressed to minor purchasing power consumers (CompreBem, Extra Perto and Sendas), hypermarkets (Extra), electronic and home appliance stores (Extra-Eletro), cash-and-carry (Assai), and convenience stores (Extra Fácil).

Constituted in 1948, the company has shares listed in São Paulo Stock Exchange (PCAR4) and ADR’s in New York Stock Exchange (CBD) since 1955. The Company presented a 19% average growth in sales per year since the IPO.
